Woodland Hideaway

 



Over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up it is the midway point of our challenge. That means it is the turn of the Merry Maidens to share some more fabulous Christmas cards.

My card this month is showcasing the gorgeous paper from Woodland Hideaway which is of the snowy cabin in the woods. I have never fancied skiing but always imagined that being in a ski resort with loads of snow around would be magical and this paper reminds me of that.



I wanted to add some sparkly snow so lots of loose glitter has bee used to highlight snowdrifts and swirling in the air. It is such a shame that glitter is so hard to photograph as this is so very sparkly.

The die cut deer was added to create a bit of foreground interest and then a peel off sticker added to match the silver card used for the matting layer.

The image on the paper is so very striking that the card needed very little else to complete it.

Digital papers and elements are fantastic to use in your projects. If they are good quality it is very easy to make a great card using a print out. I am loving using my new colour laser printer as it has opened so many more creative doors for me.

Elegant Deer

My card this month has a mixture of Old & New

Old is the digital papers which were offcuts that are from a previous project.
Old is the peel off line stickers & sentiment I have had in my stash for a million years.
Old is the Elegant Deer die I have had for at least a couple of years and not previously used.

New is the gilding flakes used to 'colour' the die cut
New is gilding which is a new technique for me.

I have used the following papers designed by Lisa



The base is a sheet of white A4 cardstock. I wanted to add gold as the metallic accent as this was a large part of the colour of the gilding flakes. I used a metallic mirri card to create a border around the plaid paper. I have some border stickers from Lakeland Limited that I have been using for years. There are an assortment of thicknesses in silver and gold and have proven so useful. It is a shame they don't do crafty things anymore as I got quite a few things from them over the years. I lad the thin gold strip along the thin black lines on the pattern as I felt it gives the paper a more opulent effect that enhances the gilding.

The deer is a Sizzix thinlits die that I cut from a double sided sticker sheet. It was a bit fiddly to remove as the curly sections of the antlers were very delicate. I added this 'sticker' to the crumpled Chrome paper and cracked open my gilding flakes from Indigo Blu.

Now having never used gilding flakes I am not altogether too sure if my technique was right as I got myself in a right mess. I had used an old ice cream tub and put a few flakes into it. I then grabbed a few and squooshed into the sticky shape. Once covered I started to remove the excess that stuck out. This is when I started to get it everywhere as the static build up was worse than I had expected. I used a muslin clothe to rub off the excess and buff it but it just kept sticking to me. It was so funny at the time as these little precious flakes were all over my desk. Eventually I managed to control the bits and get them back into the pot. Having watched a YouTube video I now know I should have used a stiff brush to get the excess off before rubbing it with the cloth. The demonstrator got into a mess too though so I don't think I did too bad for my first attempt. I enjoyed doing it though and it didn't put me off having another go ☺

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

My card this month is all about trees.

I recently bought this gorgeous die from Crafter's Companion that is a sentiment and image all in one. I have cut the main image in 2 layers of white card to make it thicker. The outline was cut in gold card which is the same as the base card. This sentiment was then coloured with Promarkers in alternating red and green so it looks like layers decorated in the tree.


The patterned paper is the swirly trees from the Treemendous kit by Decosse's Dynamite Doodles. I have added som red Stickles glue to tops of the whole trees to match the star on the die cut.

I added the Happy New Year sentiment which has been recycled from a card I have previously received

Purple Snowflake

 


Over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up it is the midway point of our challenge. That means it is the turn of the Merry Maidens to share some more fabulous Christmas cards.


The challenge theme is any Any Christmas Card or other December holiday with an optional twist of Rich colours of Autumn. Use one or more of the following colours in your design: INTENSE ORANGES, DEEP REDS, RICH BROWNS, WARM GREENS, VIVID PURPLES.

I used a sketch from Build Your Holiday Stash Holiday Cardmakers for the layout.




My card this month features this super sparkly snowflake as it's centrepiece. Purple is my favourite colour and my starting point was this lovely Purple Plaid paper that Lisa designed. I printed this out and the colour is not quite as vivid as the screen shows.


I also used the purple paper from the Crumped Chrome set as a more plain complimentary piece and this is layered over a rich purple wide satin ribbon


The paper underneath the snowflake is a magazine freebie from Crafter's Companion which I have had for a mighty long time. Go me for using up old stuff (who am I kidding??? I will probably never be able to actually use it all ☺)


The snowflake is from Jingle All The Way Stamps by Kate Hadfield Designs. This was enlarged to 10cm wide as I wanted to make it big enough to be able to fussy cut it. I used Promarkers and Spectrum Noir Glitter Pens to colour it with and embellished using an assortment of gems and pearls.


The final touch was to add a typed sentiment cut into a banner shape and voila.... a gorgeous purple Christmas creation.

Penguin Huddle

My card this month features this cute grouping of penguins. This is a digital stamp called Huddle from Sheepski Designs.  This was sized to suit the paper I used from Nature of Christmas which is a great background for an outdoor snowy scene like this.



I coloured the image with Promarkers and fine liner pens. This was then fussy cut (lots of tiny details so this was a bit fiddly). I added to the card and then popped lots of glitter glue and fake fluffy snow to create the snowdrift. I added some pompoms to the hats and earmuffs. I didn't tiny green ones so I coloured 2 white ones with a Promarker. I wasn't sure if it would work very well and I am really pleased with the result.

I added the sentiment which has been recycled from a card I have previously received. As a finishing touch I added some silver peel off snowflakes in the sky.

Candy Canes


Over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up it is the midway point of our challenge. That means it is the turn of the Merry Maidens to share some more fabulous Christmas cards.

My card is as sweet as can be with so many candy canes. I have used this old freebie sentiment from Platypus Creek Digitals many times and thought it would be quite fun to try and make a heart shape from 2 Candy Canes. I had a play in my digital program and made a motif from the Candy Cane from Festive Fare Sweet Treats by Kate Hadfield Designs. 


So that being my starting point I used the candy cane paper from the Holiday Hoopla Patterned Papers set 2 by Decosse's Dynamite Doodles as my background paper. This was then matted onto red card to frame it against the white card blank.


I followed a sketch for the layout from Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers. 


I added a striped paper from a magazine freebie again matting on red card as it made it stand out better. The candy canes have been coloured with a Promarker and then fussy cut. The crossover striped section did not look right underneath so I found a scrap of pink and white heart card which I think is a happy accident as it follows through with the love/heart theme. This heart was then raised up with thin foam pads.


 Finally the sentiment was matted onto red card and also mounted with foam pads.
