Recently I was a featured creator at Scrapping4fun Challenges with the birthday card I made for my Mother in Law.

I was asked if I would like to be a guest designer for the new challenge 192 which starts today. Of course I jumped at the chance.

The theme for this challenge is Pastel Colours with Flowers

We were chatting to our next door neighbour who mentioned that his daughter is moving out soon and buying her first home with her boyfriend. The weird thing is that I had already printed out this image and sentiment to make a new home card using the Facebook Progressive Freebie Challenge set Tweet from Stamper’s Delights.

Now I don't often make cards using pastel colours but I recently won a lovely paper pad from Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper challenge and it is all subtle florals which I thought would be perfect.

613 Avenue Create has a challenge using a mood board and the colours of pink and green stood out to me so I used those colours plus yellow to match the colours in the paper.

I used Promarkers and pencils to colour and fussy cut around the edges. I mounted on thin foam pads for dimension. The sentiment is an old freebie from The Stamp Fairy.

I used a 6" gold mirror card blank and trimmed the paper a little so a small border of gold shows around the edge to highlight the gold in the paper.

I used some domed glitter dot embellishments for the flower centres and finally added some lovebird puffy stickers which are from Paperchase.

Thank you to Scrapping4fun Challenges for the opportunity to be a Guest DT on this challenge. Head on over there yourself to take part with you pastel coloured floral creations.

Birthday Cocktail

At Kate Hadfield Designs there are so many fabulous sets it is really easy to get inspired to use them. There are digital stamps which you can colour, coloured versions you can scrapbook or make into digital layouts. Papers, patterned overlays and doodles galore. No matter what your skill level there are so many goodies to play with.

This Birthday card is for a girly girl who likes cocktails and fashion. I love the cocktail stamp from On The Beach Stamps from Kate Hadfield Designs. This is exactly the type of cocktail I love, especially on holibobs (remember those?......). If it is fruity and has an umbrella and a parrot well bring it on!

This stamp set is also available in a coloured version. Perfect for making cards with or creating layouts of those precious holidays.

The stamp has been coloured with 5 shades of Promarkers from yellow to orange and each colour has been blended into the other. I am really pleased with how well this turned out. This was fussy cut and mounted into thin foam pads.

The card base has been covered with a striped paper and I kept the colours for the whole card in the same colourscheme (except the cocktail of course). This paper is from a DCWV Christmas pad. If not a specific theme I split my papers up by colour. If a paper fits my project  so it does not matter to me at all if it is from a Christmas pad.

The champagne bottle die is from Crafter's Companion and it makes a lovely shaker card. I found it better to use beads rather than glitter as the static makes the acetate and glitter clingy. I tried an anti static bag but wasn't so successful, perhaps the glitter was too fine? The label has been printed with 2002 which is the year Tamsin was born and I added a silver peel off T. The little heart on the neck label is a puffy sticker from Paperchase.

The lipstick is a die from Quickutz and the shoe and handbag are cardstock stickers that have been in my stash for years.

The sentiment was printed, matted onto silver card and then I used a die from the Grace Frame set for the back panel.

Over at Kate Hadfield Designs there is lots going on. Kate is really generous with her freebies which are readily available. If you sign up to the newsletter you get access to an extra subscriber area the Doodle Den where there are loads more freebies. There is a gallery full of projects by the Creative Team and customers and so much inspiration for crafters and teachers. I would highly recommend you pop over there and join in the fun.

Welcome Little One

Kinda Cute by Patricia Alvarez runs a Progressive Freebie Challenge over on her Facebook group. You can use any image by Patricia to enter and then if you submit a card you can get a free image the month afterwards. I took part for the first time in April (but didn't get to blog it in time) and this is the card I made using this cute dinosaur hatching image.

I thought it would make a great card for welcoming a new baby and made it gender neutral in colours I thought would suit a dinosaur.

The image has been coloured with Promarkers and added shading with Arteza pencils. I used a Spectrum Noir metallic marker for the spots which have a gentle shimmer to them.

The background paper is from the Spring Burst pack by Papermania and the glittery striped paper is from The Glitter Stack by DCVW. I am proud to say both are snippets as well as the green and brown cards used for layering the sentiment and image.

The sentiment is a freebie from MM Designs. They have not put anything new on their blog for a long time but this sentiments is still available to download HERE.

Finally I added some yellow buttons which have been threaded with some green twine.

Winter Flora Poinsettia

It is time for another challenge over at The Paper Funday.

Our challenges are always Anything Goes with an optional twist.

The twist this time is the theme 'Floral or Flowers'

We are very fortunate to have 2 sponsors for each challenge this year which means we get to choose which artist we would like to work with. This really is great as it gives us double the choice. We are very lucky with the amazing sponsors that are lined up this year, many of which are old favourites and some are new to me. This time we have CAS-Ual Fridays Stamps & The Artsy Stamper and as always we thank them for sponsoring us.

For this challenge I have opted to use the twist of Floral & Flowers

I have combined this challenge with my Creative Team hat at Kate Hadfield Designs as I have used one of the images from Winter Flora Stamps.

Now I used to hate and I do mean hate poinsettias. I just did not understand why they were so popular and would never have had one but over the last few years I have been changing, getting more into gardening and plants and really like how colourful and vibrant they are. I have been using them more and more in Christmas cards and I even bought a real one last year. I was impressed it made it through Christmas without me killing it but didn’t last much longer than that!

This card started out with the Elegant Holly Cut & Emboss embossing folder as the starting point. It cuts the aperture in the middle and embossed the cardstock at the same time. I used cream card and added some green inks to the background and holly leaves with some cosmetic blending brushes which were a bargain from Amazon. I used a darker green on the holly and added a marker to the centre spine. I then used a Pebeo gilding wax and added it to the raised areas being careful not to be too heavy handed. I used a paper tissue to wipe off excess and burnish it. It is really shiny and looks so rich and opulent. The gilding made the background subdued so I used a green metallic pencil to lightly add colour to the debossed background. I used an almost dry mini ink pad to go round the edges and distress it.

The poinsettia has been printed 3 times and fussy cut so I could decoupage the layers. I used markers and pencils to colour and add shading to the petals. These layers were separated with foam squares and I added some gold Stickles glue to the centre.

I have used gold mirror card to mat the embossed panel and the green patterned paper. I used an offcut of red marble paper in the background of the aperture. The darker tone brings out the colours in the flower layers.

I die cut some leaves from the Festive Foliage die from Crafter’s Companion. It has 4 different types of flora suitable for using with Christmas cards so I think it will be quite a useful set. I played about with the placement of these in combination with the decoupage and the Prima fabric flowers in the top corner until I was happy with how they looked. The thin gold ribbon was added to criss cross the card and then all the leaves and flowers added over this.

The sentiment has been rescued/recycled from an old Christmas card. The sheer glitteryness of it means there is no way I was throwing that away. I matted this onto a scrap of the mirror card and trimmed round it.

Finally I added some red Stickles glitter glue to the berries because you can never have enough glitter at Christmas.

I hope you will join myself and our fabulous team over at The Paper Funday

Bertha's Bread Baking Bonanza

It is the start of a new month (OMG May already!) and I am back with my DT hat on for
The Freebie/Progressive Challenge at The Outlawz.

As long as you made a card with the April freebie you will automatically get the May image free. It is a fabulous way to use images from artists you many not have used before. Also sometimes the image is completely different to something you would normally use. It has been a good way for me to stretch my creativity and take me out of my comfort zone.

I would highly recommend anyone who is not already taking part to jump in and have a go. We are a really friendly bunch at The Outlawz.

This month we are sponsored by Dr. Digi's House of Stamps

We have been given this fun image Bertha's Bread Baking Bonanza to play with. During the early months of the pandemic last year many people were baking and clearing the shelves of flour. I myself rarely bake as you tend to eat the things that you shouldn't if you are trying to lose weight..... I can bake but it is better for my waistline that I don't 😉

I thought it might make a fun birthday card and planned to team it with a baking sentiment. I found the perfect one from Doodle Dragon Studios. I used to subscribe to an annual thing on Dustin Pike's blog and you got loads and load of images over the course of a year and this was one of them.

I found in my stash a die cut sheet from Hunky Dory with birthday cakes and cupcakes, frames and sentiments and started with that as my colour scheme.

I decided to make a Z fold card so Bertha could go on the front taking centre stage in all her baking glory. I coloured the image with Promarkers and added gel pen for silver streaks in her hair. The image was fussy cut and popped up on thin foam pads.

The card front has been covered with some lovely spotty vellum which was a bargain some years ago. I got 5 A4 sheets for only £1 from The Works. It is a lovely thickness too so you don't see the adhesive underneath. I added the die cut frame and popped Bertha inside busily baking away. I have adorned her with some self adhesive pearls and added some puffy sticker cupcakes from Paperchase.

The inside of the card has another frame from the die cut set. I loved the little hearts as it goes perfectly with the 'Baked With Love' sentiment. This has been coloured with Promarkers and a red glittery gel pen. I used a die from Spellbinders to cut the label shape and drew a line around it with a silver gel pen.

The cupcake is a decal that has been cut from a vinyl wallpaper. Whenever I go to the DIY stores I am always on the lookout for samples of wallpaper that have nice patterns or something interesting that might be suitable for using on a card.

The back panel of the card has this lovely cake, spotty frame and sentiment all from the die cut sheet.

This photo shows the card opened out and you can see how perfect the spotty vellum goes with the images.

I have to be honest and say this is an image I would not have chosen to work with but it made me think outside the box and stretched my creativity to think of how I could use it. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

I hope we will see you enter our challenge at The Outlawz and look forward to seeing the entries using this image.
