Happy Birthday Statement Butterfly

Recently I was a featured creator at Scrapping4fun Challenges with a Christmas card I made.

I am delighted to be a guest designer for the new challenge 197 which starts today.

The theme for this challenge is Birthday to celebrate the blog's birthday and also Rachelle.
Many happy returns to them both.

At the beginning of the pandemic I had gone through my scraps and cut a load of butterflies using my gorgeous Statement Butterfly dies from Crafter's Companion. I made a series of cards in al different colours and styles but had a couple of butterflies left that I put to one side. This beautiful butterfly is really big and detailed and most definitely one of my most used items.

The butterfly was already assembled and ready to add to a card. This one has a top layer of pink and has inked wings using a lilac pearlescent ink pad. I like to leave the wings loose on the middle and top layers to add dimension and the bottom solid layer is firmly stuck down.

I used a dark purple card base and added a layers of pale pink. I used a cream pearl card and embossed it in a really old Cuttlebug embossing folder. I was really surprised that I have never used it before. I have catalogued all my dies, stamps and embossing folders in Evernote and when I make something with it I add an image to the file. This way I can make a concerted effort to ACTUALLY USE my supplies and not just collect and store them.

I added clear gems to the body and some glitter domes to add a bit of interest to the background.

Finally I added a sentiment and some small purple gems.

Thank you to Scrapping4fun Challenges for the opportunity to be a Guest DT on this challenge. Head on over there yourself to take part with your birthday creations.

Totally amazed that Sara Davies herself from Crafter's Companion left me a lovely comment on this card on Facebook.

Srsly Stoked Guitar Dude

Kate Hadfield Designs and Kim Jensen Designs collaborated together at The Lilypad and made a great set called Srsly Stoked. This is aimed at teens (and all the cool dudes) and has a grungy style. Currently it is on offer at half price and is an amazing deal.

In the Collaboration kit you get a pack of papers and elements from Kim Jensen Designs

And you get a pack of elements from Kate Hadfield Designs. This is also available in the Kate Hadfield store as black & white stamps.

There is also a cool alphabet Kate designed called Graffiti which complements the kit.

Using this whole kit I have made a collection of cards which I will be showing you over the next few days whilst the kit is on special offer.

--------------------

My card has been made by creating a digital layout in a graphics programme sized to suit a finished card of 6" square. I layered 2 of the papers from the kit so it showed a black border around the patterned starburst paper.

I used elements from Kate's kit placing the guitar to the bottom left and used the rays to position the lightening to look like music radiating from the guitar. I added the already made word art for the main sentiment. I printed a second layer of the guitar and this was fussy cut and popped up on foam pads to add extra dimension.

The HB2U has been made using the Graffiti alphabet. I just played about with the positioning of the letters until I was happy with it.

Once I was happy with my overall layout this was then printed onto glossy photo paper. I really find this makes the colours pop and is perfect for this bright bold style of design. I mounted this onto a green card blank and added the decoupage layer.

I am not normally all that great with cards for men but found this kit was particularly fun to use. I had intended to do 2 or 3 cards and ended up making 6 so that is really good going for me

Over at Kate Hadfield Designs there is lots going on. Kate is really generous with her freebies which are readily available. If you sign up to the newsletter you get access to an extra subscriber area the Doodle Den where there are loads more freebies. There is a gallery full of projects by the Creative Team and customers and so much inspiration for crafters and teachers. I would highly recommend you pop over there and join in the fun.

Srsly Stoked Boom Box

The sentiment has been made using the Graffiti alphabet. I just played about with the positioning of the letters until I was happy with it. It is quite forgiving due to the style so you don't have to worry about having perfect alignment.

The headphones and boom box images are from the Kate Hadfield elements. I printed a second layer of the boom box and this was fussy cut and popped up on foam pads to add extra dimension.

Once I was happy with my overall layout this was then printed onto glossy photo paper. I really find this makes the colours pop and is perfect for this bright bold style of design. I mounted this onto a white card blank and added the decoupage layer.

Dylan's Super Duper Birthday

At Kate Hadfield Designs there are so many fabulous sets it is really easy to get inspired to use them. There are digital stamps which you can colour, coloured versions you can scrapbook or make into digital layouts. Papers, patterned overlays and doodles galore. No matter what your skill level there are so many goodies to play with.

One of the most fabulous things about being in this Creative Team is that we have free rein to make anything we want to using the sets in the shop. This is amazing for inspiring creativity as there are so many amazing packs to play with. I feel very, very lucky to be able to have this opportunity.

It was my favourite little dude Dylan's 6th Birthday on Sunday and he loves superheroes. The Super Duper and Super Duper Too sets were the most perfect designs to use to make a really personal card for him. Both these sets are available in the pre-coloured versions I used here and you can also get them as black and white to colour yourself.

I used a background paper from the Painted Pretties pack and sized up the green and blue one to pick the blue section for my sky. This is a really versatile pack to use as the background for so many projects.

Next I created a scene using the tall building and the flying boy from Super Duper. Of course every flying super hero needs a whoosh to demonstrate how fast they are flying so this was added too.

From the Super Duper Too pack I added the clouds. I used them in different sizes and also flipped some to change the look a little. I used the Super word art from this and incorporated this into my sentiment. The extra wording are two fonts my hubby bought for me to go with my Affinity Designer software program.

This scene was printed onto glossy photo paper and then matted with red card and a pearlised blue before adding to the card base made from a sheet of A4 card.

I love making cards full stop but more than anything I adore making something that I know is so personal to the recipient. To see how his little face lit up when he saw it brought me so much joy. His Mum loved it too

Snow Drifters

It's Christmas every month for us over at 12 Months of Christmas Link Up.
However many non-Christmas challenges traditionally have a Christmas in July theme and this has given us the opportunity to use any Christmas supplies this time round.

The Merry Maidens are sharing their cards for you today.

As alway our amazing leader Lisa of Decosse’s Dynamite Doodles has created some lovely papers Paillette Stripes which will be the prize for 3 lucky winners this month. Lisa's papers are always fabulous quality and very high resolution files so they print really crisp and clear.

For my Card this month I have used a digital stamp from a set called Snow Drifters by Beccy’s Place. The images come in both colour and outline stamps and you get the 4 sentiments and 7 different snowflakes so you can easily make your own scenes.

I used the image of the snow couple hugging. I adore the expressions on their faces so much. I coloured the image using coloured pencils and added some detail with a white gel pen. Loads of glitter glue has been added to the snow and fur trims. There is even a subtle glitter added to the body but this doesn't show up in photos at all.

The small snowman has been taken from the patterned paper in the Christmas Fun Paper Pack. I love picking elements from these papers to use as an image in its own right. It is a fabulous way to stretch your supplies, you just need very basic digital image skills to isolate it from the main paper. Always just remember to work on a copy of the paper though and not to use your original so you don't accidentally delete your original file.

The background is a paper from the Merry Christmouse Paper Pack. I used this for last month's card and my hubby had printed it for me on plain card and glossy photo paper. The colours are move vibrant on the glossy paper so that suited my  previous card better. The more muted tones of the card I knew I could use so kept for this card instead.

I added some silver glitter glue for star details and used gold to highlight the shooting star and the moon.

Finally the sentiment is an old freebie from Pink Cat Studio. These seem to be no longer available as the author has gone down a more educational route with her digis.

I do hope you will join us with Christmas in July at 12 Months of Christmas. If you haven't already started your Christmas Cards then this is the perfect opportunity to get cracking on your festive makes.

A Sporty Celebration

At Kate Hadfield Designs there are so many fabulous sets it is really easy to get inspired to use them. There are digital stamps which you can colour, coloured versions you can scrapbook or make into digital layouts. Papers, patterned overlays and doodles galore. No matter what your skill level there are so many goodies to play with.

One of the most fabulous things about being in this Creative Team is that we have free rein to make anything we want to using the sets in the shop. This is amazing for inspiring creativity as there are so many amazing packs to play with. I feel very, very lucky to be able to have this opportunity.

A really good teacher friend had the fabulous news that they have been promoted to the head of PE. What a perfect excuse/reason to create a celebratory card combining 2 really versatile stamp sets Let's Celebrate & School Sports.  Kate really has packs to suit every occasion in her store.

I started out by making a tall slimline card using a sheet of A4 card as the base and dividing into 3 panels. This enabled me to make a traditional celebration card with the champagne bottle, glass and sentiment from Let's Celebrate Stamps.

I coloured the image using Promarkers adding shading with coloured pencils. A gold glitter marker has been added to the foil on the bottle and bubbles on the champagne. I added some star gems in the background and doodled borders with a fine tipped grey pen.  The label is blank and id the perfect place to add some personalisation.

All panels of the card have a patterned card stock with gold foiling which is a patterned file folder I found in The Range. I loved the design and thought it would work well on cards. I always look for supplies in unexpected places!

The middle panel is dedicated to the sports. I am not entirely sure what sports she teaches but going back to my school days hockey, netball, basketball, football were all popular so I thought I would be safe with the ones I chose.

The top image was made with the basketball hoop and I placed the ball so it was just about to pop in. The digital stamps have a white fill background so it is easy to place them in this manner in a basic digital program ( I am on a Mac and use Affinity Designer)

The centre image is the trophy, a trainer and a whistle. I am sure we all remember PE teachers and their whistles.....

The bottom image is 2 hockey sticks and a ball.

This is a close up of all the stamps together. The back panel has been left blank for the hand written sentiment. I gave this card with a celebratory bottle of Prosecco and both were very well received.

Over at Kate Hadfield Designs there is lots going on. Kate is really generous with her freebies which are readily available.
