My Best Friend

The Progressive Freebie image we have been given to work with this month over at The Outlawz is My Best Friend from All Dressed Up. This is such a cute image.

I have coloured it using Promarkers & Flexmarkers and a little red gel pen.

I used the current sketch from Outlawz for the layout of this card.

The paper is from a magazine freebie from my stash. It has footprints on it which I have added some glossy accents to it and a border of silver peel off stickers on a roll.

The image has been matted onto black card and I have added some self adhesive ribbon from Docrafts.

Finally the little puppies are rubber stamps that were a free gift with the February issue of Making Cards magazine. I could not resist the cute little doggies. They have been stamped, coloured with Promarkers and fussy cut then mounted onto 3d foam to add dimension.

Masquerade Mask

My husband recently went to a Masquerade ball for a works function and needed a mask.

We looked at buying one from Amazon and Ebay but none were quite what he was after. For the function he was going to be wearing a tuxedo with a 2 tone red dickie bow but we could not find the right sort of style or colour.

He asked if I could make one. I had not done anything like this before so wasn't sure I would be able to pull it off but I said I would give it a try.

I did a Google search for a template and there were loads to choose from, mainly colouring page. I printed a couple off and experimented with the sizing and style.  This seemed to be the best one as he didn't want it to be too feminine. The placement of the eyeholes wasn't quite right so it was a case of measuring up to his face and adjusting where necessary.

Once I had the final template I then drew round it on 240gsm black cardstock. I used a couple of sheets of double sided tape from Affixit Crafts. It is quite thick and super sticky so perfect for helping to stabilise the mask.

The paper I have used is a thick wrapping paper that I bought from Paperchase many moons ago. It is a metallic gold background with a red flocked scroll pattern on top. It is very opulent and perfect for this kind of project. Paperchase do an amazing range of wrapping papers. Each sheet is the equivalent of 8 A4 pieces of paper and they cost between £1 and £3 depending on the finish. I find it can be a great source of gorgeous printed and handmade papers that are far too nice to wrap a gift with.

The outside edge is a trim that has been stick down with a thin red line adhesive tape. This tape is super strong and is my go-to tape for when I need to guarantee good adhesion. The eyes have been trimmed with gems from The Works.

Finally I added large gold eyelets using my Cropadile and some elastic to go round his head. I also made a matching pocket square from the same paper.

I wasn't sure if it would be substantial enough to last the night but it is still alive :)
It got passed around many people and featured in lots of photos so I class that as a success.

Paper - Wrapping paper from Paperchase

Baby Robin

I am a member of the Card Making Tips group on Facebook and there is a Christmas card challenge every week.

Week 5 challenge is a sketch

The challenge over at Beccy's Place is Anything Goes with a store image and the optional theme is Animals. The image I used is Baby Robin from Beccy's Place

I absolutely love this cute little robin which is coloured with Promarkers. I added white gel pen to the berries to emulate a shine.

The papers are from my Christmas scraps box. The red snowflake paper is the background from a card I have received and recycled. It is foiled and far too pretty to throw away.

I used die cut holly leaves from Craftwork Cards for the corner embellishment and combined this with a red circle sentiment to emulate a holly berry. I added gold gel pen to the leaves and matted the sentiment on a scrap of gold card and mounted onto 3d foam for added dimension.

Size - 6" x 6"
Colouring Medium - Promarkers & Gel Pens
Embellishments - Die Cut holly leaves & sentiment both from Craftwork Cards

Winter Blues

Over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up it is the Merry Maidens turn to showcase some fabulous Christmas cards.

The optional Twist for this challenge is "Winter Blues" inspired by the prize paper pack on offer for the winner Winter Blues 1 designed by Decosse's Dynamite Doodles.

This month we are sponsored by Sheepski Designs who have a fabulous range of images in their store including some lovely Christmas ones.

I chose Snow Happy image 59 to work with from the store.

The image is coloured with Promarkers and lots and lots of glitter courtesy of a clear sparkle pen from Spectrum Noir by Crafter's Companion.

As I don't have access to a colour printer at the moment I have scanned in the image and used it to make a digital card.

I use a program called Affinity Photo on the Mac and created a square card. The base layer is just plain navy blue. The snowflake paper is snowfall from the Welcome to the North Pole kit by Decosse's Dynamite Doodles.

I have added triangle corners in the plain blue and snowflakes from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles

The image has been added to a panel of blue that has been rotated. I then added a 'frame' of snowflakes around the edge of the snowangel. This card has 24 layers plus the signature and is the most complicated of all digital creations I have produced.

I do hope you will take part in our challenge and look forward to seeing your creations.
