Gingerbread House

 


Over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up it is the midway point of our challenge. That means it is the turn of the Merry Maidens to share some more fabulous Christmas cards

For my card I have used an image from one of the sets on my wishlist from Beccy's store Gingerbread Set. I adore the gingerbread house and knew it would look lovely if I decoupaged it to create multiple layers and highlight the intricate details. The whole set can be purchased from Beccy's Place store for $10 HERE



I started with a sheet of gold A4 pearl card for the base. On this is a layer of brown card and then the gingerbread paper from the Christmas Confectionery Patterned Papers set from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles. The great thing about digital files is that you can play about with the sizing and placement to fit your project. This is a real advantage when you have a motif that you can be certain fits into the size and shape of your project. No one wants to cut through the body of a gingerbread man!


I isolated one of each motif from the paper and enlarged them so they could be added as embellishments. Lisa's files are always really good quality and high resolution so they are perfect for this and a great way for you to stretch your supplies. Good quality digital papers easily allow you to expand your creativity in this way.

The gingerbread house is made up of 3 layers. The bottom layer is the full image. The next layer up is the whole roof and chimney. The final layer is the roof trim and the window shutters. All layers have been coloured using Promarkers.  They have been fussy cut with my trusty Fiskars embroidery scissors. These were a VERY expensive purchase when I first started making cards but allow me to cut very neatly and have lasted over 20 years. They only need sharpening every now and again by cutting through several layers of kitchen foil and they are as good as new. They have definitely been worth the initial outlay. 

The layers have been put together with some thin foam pads. Of course I have had to add lots of stickles glitter glue and some red gems. I added this to some brown cardstock and trimmed close to the image. This slight contrast gave a better separation from the element and the gingerbread paper.

I also added the trimmed gingerbread figures to card in the same way. Used a black fineliner to add some eyes and some red gems for the buttons.

The sentiment is one I created myself using a font that came in a special font package my hubby bought me from Serif who are the creators of the digital software I use:- Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer.

For the gold metallic sentiment mat I have used one of my fave dies from Crafter's Companion Grace Frame. This was my very first die from CC and must be about 17 or so years old. I love how intricate the border is an it is a decent size so perfect for framing a larger sentiment panel.

All in all I am really pleased with this card. Beccy's image has turned out exactly as I had hoped and Lisa's gingerbread paper is the perfect combination to make a super yummy Christmas card that is good enough to eat.

Make Sweet Music Always & Forever

 


This wedding card is a commission for a very good friend and neighbour. This is for me the very best reason to make a card as it incorporates so many of the things the recipients like the most and of course the very best reason to make a card (for a romantic like me) a wedding.

The brief was Shabby Chic, wedding colours are navy, pale blue and pale pink. They like David Bowie, Star Wars and have a Bassett Hound.

Now if I am honest I thought I would not be able to include all that but got my thinking cap on and suggested a jukebox with records including their names, song titles and even included a nod to their dog and Star Wars with the Cantina Band. 

The jukebox is a clipart image from HiClipart. I coloured with Promarkers and added some pencil lines to the records and some silver gel marker.

The base of navy blue card has been covered with a pale blue paper from my stash which had a distressed painted effect on it. I tore the edges and roughed them up shabby chic style. I had the perfect ribbon & lace piece in my collection which accents the style.

The wedding sentiment is a freebie from Desert Diva. Hannelie has hundreds of sentiments on her blog and is so generous with them. I have matted this on the Intricate Trellis die from Crafter's Companion and accented with some gems and paper flowers.

The base for the records is a digital stamp from Rhoda Design Studio. This is freebie that is still available to download. I used the main one with hearts to add the bride and groom's names. In my graphics program I created my own version with the same dimensions so it had a clear centre giving more space for text. You can see in the image below a closeup of the text on each one. This will make it so personal to Sarah & Stuart. All the music elements are popped up on foam pads.



The bottom sentiment is one I created myself. I have included here in JPG and PNG formats for you to download if you wish to. If you do use them I would be grateful if you could give credit to me and link back to my blog as I would love to see how you have used it.






I added some smaller paper flowers to frame the sentiment. 
The final touch was to punch some musical notes with an EK Sucess punch. The inside has a printed verse and I used punch to add 2 entwined hearts.

When I gave it to my friend she was absolutely delighted with it. It is the wedding on the 29th May and I really do hope Sarah & Stuart 'Make Sweet Music Always & Forever'

Have a Llamazing Birthday




Today is my first post as a DT member on Through the Craft Room Door.


For this challenge we as sponsored by Oddball Art Co. and the prize is £10 to spend in the store.  


The image I have used is the Llama from No Drama Llama image 537. It is a great value set as you get quite a few different elements that you can use in your crafting.


Not knowing what colours llama's can come in I did a Google search and found that a lot of people get llama's and alpaca's confused. Llamas are really big, almost as popular as unicorns now. Also the phrase 'no drama llama' is quite bit, hence the sentiment in the digi pack.  I decided not to use it myself and chose a play on words for my sentiment. I had no suitable sentiments in my digis so decided to make one myself.

The image has been coloured using Promarkers. I added curly squiggles after shading to emulate the texture in the alpaca fleece.

I haven’t made an easel card for ages and thought this would be a lovely way to use this image. All the patterned papers are from the Family Ties First Edition pad by Dovecraft. The main paper is a glittery damask pattern and I used a co-ordinating gingham pattern. The yellow and gold cardstock used for matting and layering is scraps from my stash. I have separated them into 12"x12" bags by colour. One side has plain scraps, the other has patterned. This has made it very easy for me to go through these first for what I need. If nothing suitable then I will cut a sheet as required.

I used a Nestabilities die to to cut around the sentiment  and the larger mats. I inked around the edges of the larger mat to define the shape better. I used my lovely flourish die from Cheery Lynn. I love how you can manipulate the swirls as in the front of the card, but then can snip it into shapes as for the inside. The flowers are Primas and I have added lots of twinkly gem centres.
