Glitter Snowflake Blue



I have had these large silver glittered snowflakes for some time. The are supposed to be Christmas tree decorations but I just thought they would look fabulous on a card.

The latest sketch 620 from Sketch Saturday is the perfect layout for this snowflake. 


I used a sheet of silver mirror card for the base and layered some blue snowflake paper onto it leaving a silver border. 



I recently purchased a fabulous embossing folder from Crafter's Companion. It is such a useful background and I wanted to use it in a different way than a card I made recently.

The central panel is another embossed piece but for this one I cut it so the starburst was centred. I added the snowflake by cutting little slits in the card and attaching with some thin silver wire. The snowflakes are so full of glitter I felt this was a more secure way of attaching that any glue would have been. This back panel was then added to a mat of more of the silver card.

I added a few clear gems in 2 different sizes and a glitter sentiment that has been recycled from a shop bought card.

I am really pleased with how this card has turned out. It is very clean for one of my designs. I just love the very graphic nature of the sparkly snowflake against the blues.

I got absolutely covered in glitter too :)

Poinsettias



It is time for another challenge for Team B at Through The Craft Room Door

It is no secret to anyone who follows my blog that I adore Beccy's images and have worked with them many times both for design teams and my own pleasure.

I decided to work with the main image and a sentiment from the Poinsettias Set. I think I must be changing as I get older as I used to hate Poinsettias with a vengeance, I don't really know why as I love flowers but couldn't stand these.  Paul's Grandma always used to have them and they lasted for months. As I have got older I can see that they are a welcome bit of colour in the dull Winter months.


Anyhoo, when I was looking at Beccy's images I went into my own wishlist and instantly knew this cluster and sentiment would make a lovely Christmas card for a lovely old couple who live a few doors down. They love my cards and still have a butterfly card I made for them a few months ago on display so I know this will be well received by them.

I have coloured the image with Promarkers adding lots of shading in different tones. I added a very pale yellow border around it as I knew I was going to cut it out. There is so much detail in the image I felt it better to leave a small border around the intricate areas to make it pop out better against the card background.


I used the latest sketch 244 from Feeling Sketchy for the layout and rotated it to suit my purpose.



I knew when I looked at the image I had the perfect die for the background which is Festive Flowers from Crafter's Companion. It is really intricate and cut in gold sparkly card it is a lovely compliment to the image. I added a red background paper to the card front and then the die cut. The ribbon I have had for a couple of years and not used before. It kind of started off the whole idea of this card. 

You know how every now and again you can 'see' exactly how the card will turn out? This was one of those except I had intended to use green paper for the card base. The flowers didn't really pop like I thought they would so I changed it to a darker red and it looked much better.

The sentiment has been added to some more of the gold card and raised on 3d foam squares as well as the image. Finally I added 3 large gold pearls to the top left hand corner and 2 differing sizes to the centre of the flowers.

Our challenges at Through the Craft Room Door are always Anything Goes so easy to enter. I hope you will join us.

Candy Cane Bear



It is the final day of the 10th Annual Christmas in July challenge at Catch The Bug.

Today we have been given a colour challenge.


I have used Candy Cane Bear from Bugaboo Stamps. I could see the colours of the candy cane in the swatch and went from there.

I have coloured with Promarkers and added a white gel pen for eyes and stripes.



I have followed the latest sketch 378 at Atlantic Hearts for the layout. I trimmed the image and added a mat of black card.


The card front has been covered with a spotty paper. I found a striped paper with candy canes and reindeers on it and used 3 of the stripes from it to follow the sketch. Finally I added a sentiment that has been rescued from the recycling bin from a shop bought card.

The style of this card is very Clean & Simple for me. I fought the temptation to add something in the top left hand corner......it keeps calling to me LOL

I was determined to follow all the challenges this week at Catch the Bug and apart from yesterday all cards have been posted the day the challenge went up. I have thoroughly enjoyed these challenges and have 7 more Christmas cards to add to my growing pile.

The Big Guy


I'm later than intended with my entry for Day 6 of the 10th Annual Christmas in July challenge at Catch The Bug. I had to go do the food shopping with my Mother in Law so 2 stores/shopping trips later then technical support when the apps on her smart TV would not work. Then cooking the evening meal..... real life just gets in the way of crafting. 

Today we have been given a photo as inspiration.


Obviously the inspiration had to be Santa. I used this fab image The Big Guy that I recently bought from Beccy's Place. It is one of the nicest digis of Santa I have found and it has a great set of sentiments with it too.

The image has been coloured with Promarkers. I wanted the fir trim to have texture to it so used PVA glue and to create layers I used a cocktail stick to apply roughly in cloud style peaks. I then added Glamour Dust ultra fine glitter and left to dry (totally underestimated how long that would take and by the time the card was finished it was too dark to take a photo)

I have used sketch 467 from Try Stamping on Tuesday for the layout.


I have lots and lots of Christmas papers and rarely use the black ones but decided this sketch would suit it. I have a 6"x 6" pad which I picked up from Poundland for £1 and it had quite a few black papers. I used two of these for the top and bottom sections of the card. The diagonal paper is a scrap from recent cards made. I have attached some red metallic self adhesive tape top and bottom. I have no idea when or where I bough these. I was sorting one of my last remaining boxes of bits and came across them so put them with my other tapes :)

The red and green ribbon is self adhesive, the red has a velvet texture to it. Santa has a fine border of light grey around him and I then fussy cut and mounted onto thin foam pads. One of the papers from the pad had a Santa Stop Here post which is repeated on the whole page so I cut one out, mounted onto white card and layered on foam pads.

Finally I added some die cut holly leaves and buttons.

Xmas Holly



It is Day 5 of the 10th Annual Christmas in July challenge at Catch The Bug.
Today we have been challenged to make us laugh.


I love the sentiment from the Stella Santa Died Laughing set from Bugaboo Stamps and have teamed it with an image Xmas Holly from Stamper's Delights. The image really reminds me of Kylie Minogue singing Santa Baby. It will be a perfect card for my very stylish Sister in Law.

I have coloured the image with Promarkers and pencils for shading on the hair. I have fussy cut around the image as I wanted her to really stand out against the background which is an embossing folder called Confetti Burst by Crafter's Companion. This has been embossed on some white core card and I sanded it back to reveal the pattern.

I added a sequin trim onto the bottom edge of the dress. You need sparkly sequins on your Christmas dress afterall. I added some sequins and gems ono the background to make the sparkles really pop. When I saw this embossing folder this is the type of effect I could envisage and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Finally the sentiment was trimmed and cut with a corner rounding punch and then added onto a scrap of gold card. No patterned paper required which is very unusual for me.....

Little Penguin Decorate Tree


It is Day 4 of the 10th Annual Christmas in July challenge at Catch The Bug.
Today we have a bingo board. I have chosen Sparkle - Bugaboo Image - Sentiment


The image is  Little Penguin Decorate Tree from Bugaboo Stamps. I am on the DT of  The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up and as part of my duties I need to use digital papers designed by our leader.  I do not have access to a colour printer at the moment so I have been making cards by colouring the image and then scanning it in to make a digital card. This then means that I have the physical image to be able to make a card in the future. Win Win then....

I coloured the image using a combination of Promarkers, Spectrum Noir and gel pens. I followed a tutorial on Beccy's Place of how to colour the night sky to add stars and snowflakes to the background. Beccy's instructions were so easy to follow and I am so pleased with the finished result. The ground has loads of irridescent glitter and is textured with glue 'snowdrifts'. The image has been matted onto dark blue sparkle card for contrast. 

The layout is a sketch from a year long Christmas Challenge that I have been taking part in on a Facebook group. I am playing catch up with this one.


The card front has been covered with a glittery paper with snowflakes on it from DCVW.

The white snowflake panel is a glittery ribbon which I bought a few years ago. There is so much glitter on it I knew it had to be part of my crafty stash.

Following the sketch I added loads of snowflakes in various styles and sizes. Some are die cuts from a Sizzlits Cut & Emboss folder, some are metallic ones that came from a Christmas banner decoration I bought from Poundland and took apart. Some have been rescued & recycled from shop bought cards. Some are funky foam ones I have had in my stash for more years than I like to think about.

I have added a liberal sprinkling of gems to the snowflakes and also the red baubles on the image. It's a Christmas card so that means lots of bling and glitter. If you can't add it to a Christmas card then when can you?

Finally I added a sentiment which has been recycled from a shop bought card and matted onto a scrap of the blue sparkle card.

We have had a really cute flash freebie image today as well so thankyou to the ever generous Jodie as always.
