Girl Floating With Balloons



Kinda Cute by Patricia Alvarez has a Progressive Freebie challenge on Facebook. If you use any of her images and submit a card by the end of that month then you get a free image the following month. 

I have used the image Girl Floating with Balloons and coloured with Promarkers. I selected the coloured background which is actually the inside of a birthday card which I have rescued/recycled. I chose colours from this to colour the balloons in. I added a snippet of striped paper from a K & Company pad and matted this onto a scrap of silver cardstock.

I used pencils to colour the sky over the top of a pale blue Promarker. I find the pencil adds a more swirly textured effect on top. The clouds are a stencil which came with issue 29 of Crafter's Inspiration from Crafter's Companion. I tried colouring with white pencil and it was too pale so outlined in a mid grey, then blended a lighted grey. I used a white Pentel paint marker and added a swirly effect to the clouds. If I am honest I had no idea if it would work but it has added so much depth and texture and is shiny IRL. I am very happy with my experiment.

I matted the image onto some silver holographic card. I love how the colourful balloons have reflected in the card which was an unexpected bonus. Finally I added a die cut sentiment from Craftwork Cards.

Xmas Penguins

 


It is time for another challenge at The Paper Funday.
Our challenges are always Anything Goes with an optional Twist.
The twist this time is "Summer Fun"



We are very fortunate to have 2 sponsors for each challenge this year which means we get to choose which artist we would like to work with. This really is great as it gives us double the choice. We have some amazing sponsors lined up this year, many of which are old favourites and some that are new to me.

This month we have Dr. Digis House of Stamps & Hetty Clare Art


I chose to work with this adorable Xmas Penguins image from Hetty Clare Art. I LOVE making Christmas cards as it is the perfect excuse to add sparkle to a card. I make them all through the year so there is no mad rush closer to the special day.




I have coloured the image using Promarkers and a pale blue pencil for the sky. I added some stars in the sky using a stencil, Platinum sparkle medium for the larger blue stars and Aleene's Glitter Snow for the white ones. I then sprinkled with a little Glamour Dust glitter to make more sparkly.

The snow ground is made from the glitter snow. I apply this using a lollipop stick as I like how textured this makes it. This has more glitter applied as I don't think the glitter snow is that glittery really. More of the glitter snow has been added to the Santa hat trim and this was left plain.

The card front has been covered with a leftover strip of striped paper in red & green to match the image colours. I then matted the image with gold card and added a foiled sentiment.

Finally for a bit of fun I added some googley eyes to the penguins. It just add so much character to the little guys.

Sammy the Snowman

 



Any frequent visitor to my blog will not be surprised to know that I love making Christmas cards and especially featuring Snowmen.



Our talented creator Clare at Pinksy Doodles showed us Sammy The Snowman and I immediately asked to play with him. At that stage he was in his infancy and the stamp set wasn't finished. Since then he has an optional background as you can see in the example below. This is available from the Pinksy Doodles Etsy store. You get the complete image and also the snowman which can be used separately


I had found this background sheet which was from a paper pack that you get free with a magazine. I don't buy them like I used to as I found I was subscribing but not really using them. Paper quality on this one is really good. I love the little homes scene and knew it needed some snowmen and pretty snowflakes to make the scene come to life.

I printed Sammy out in different sizes to group together. They have been coloured with Promarkers and then loads of glitter glue on the larger one. I have fussy cut with my trusty Fiskars scissors and mounted the smaller ones on foam squares to pop them up.


I used the Let it Snow die cut from Sizzix. It is a nice size and against the printed background it really pops, especially with lots of glitter added to it.

I recently won a challenge at a blog and the prize was a gift voucher to spend at Newton's Nook Designs. As part of my prize I chose this Snowfall Stencil and used parts of it to add selective snowflakes with embossing paste. It has a bit of glitter in it but a I added some Glamour Dust loose glitter whilst it was still wet. It has added so much dimension and sparkle and has some lovely intricate snowflakes. I was impressed how crisp they came out with the paste. 


Finally I have added snowdrifts on the bottom using Ice Diamond glitter from Pinflair. It is made from real glass that has been crushed and tumbled to take the sharp edges away. I have had this for years and years and this is the first time it has been used. I am actually quite surprised it is still available.

I am really enjoying working with the Pinksy Doodles images. There are digital papers and cut files in the store too at excellent prices so there is something to suit everyone.

For Day 7 at Beccy's Place Month Long Holiday Cards Challenge the prompt is the letter F. 
I have chosen Frosty the Snowman. I have managed to keep up with the challenges day by day as last year I was late to the party joining in from Day 10 so had lots to catch up. I love making Christmas cards at the best of times but now we are on lockdown 2 in England it seems even more poignant to have fun crafting and inject a bit of sparkle every day.
