Joy To The World

For Day 11 at Beccy's Place Month Long Holiday Cards Challenge the prompt is the letter J
I have chosen J for Joy.

The centrepiece of this card is the embossing folder Joy To The World which I got in a random goodie bag earlier in the year from Crafter's Companion. (Every time I say 'Joy To The World' in my head I am singing the hymn. I haven't heard it it sung it since I was in the school choir)

I embossed it onto some green Core'dinations cardstock and sanded it back to reveal the white core.

Using Promarkers I coloured the embossed areas to bring out against the background. I used a gold gilding wax to go round the shapes. The shine is shimmer looks a bit more subtle than in this photograph (so hard to get the lighting right at this time of year 😞)

I distressed the edges with a black ink pad and matted onto gold and red card.

The base is a sheet of A4 cream card and I used a damask patterned paper for the background. The card felt like it was going down a vintage style look and I tried lots of different paper combinations until I opted for this. I selected some nice ribbons that had a delicate shimmer and were not a solid block of colour. The bow arrangement started off with a solid gold lame bow that was recycled. I fed in strips of  very pale green ribbon and added a poinsettia underneath to create a contrast as it got lost otherwise.

The main poinsettia is many layers of flower forming foam that have been cut with some dies from Crafter's Companion. The gold berries have been recycled from posh Christmas Crackers and I added some of the red ones I bought from The Range.

I went food shopping with my Mother in Law yesterday and surprised the hell out of her because I bought myself a poinsettia plant. I used to absolutely hate them so she really could not get over me buying one. I think as I am getting more into gardening I recognise they add such vibrant colour in the dull winter months. Having read the care instructions it is likely I will probably kill it so here is a picture of it looking healthy LOL

  2. I love the idea of colouring the embossed image Mandy, I've never thought to do that before. Yours is actually the second card I've seen today that features coloured embossing... I feel like I've been missing something! Great idea to sand back the card stock, it has given your project a lovely vintage look that works beautifully with the holly image. I love the addition of the poinsettia and berries too.
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  16. Oh this is so beautiful Mandy! Yes, it has a warm vintage feel to it. Wonderful embossed message and your colour choices are beautiful. I love what you've done with your little bow and your recycled berries. Your new poinsettia is gorgeous! I had a good giggle at the fact that it had to be photographed now, just in case it dies. It's almost a guaranteed fact that plants will die in my house. I am utterly useless at keeping them alive. Thanks for sharing this with us at Morgan's Artworld
